The kids and I aren’t video gamers at all, but we decided it would be fun to try something new. Β We visited Xperiment VR very green. Β We had no idea what we were even in store for. My 6-year-old daughter Jewel was the first to play the virtual reality games with the direction and patient assistance of Igor, the owner. Β He set her up with an age appropriate game, a headset and a remote for each hand. Β She played several games while here. Β The first was Fruit Ninja which you may have heard of. Β It’s the popular game where you slice falling fruit with swords. Β It’s fun for kids on the computer, but trust me, its even cooler in 3-D! Β My daughter’s favorite game was called Job Simulator. Β In this game, she was given an assignment to cook a specific meal.Β  To do so, she has to go into the cabinets and the fridge in order to find the needed items to complete the task. Β Then she has to cook on a grill and plate the finished dish. Β She really enjoyed making a mess in the kitchen, figuring out how to open the doors and pick up each ingredient.Β  The best part, there was no clean up involved after!Β

We played an active game that was obstacle course-like in a setting that resembled a huge 3-D candy land called Sweet Escape. Β We climbed candy canes and jumped from cookie to cookie racing one another. Β The last game we played together was Artic Expedition.Β  It is a educational, discovery game where we were underwater in scuba gear learning about all the animals swimming Β by us. Β We saw schools or narwhal, fish and whale. Β It was beautiful and wildly realistic of how vast and abundant I would expect life in the ocean to be.Β Β

Both kids selected their settings and rode roller coasters in the game Epic Roller Coaster. My son of course, chose a prehistoric backdrop filled with dinosaurs. Β His train twirled and whizzed past numerous powerful giants. Β Not only was he thrilled by the roller coaster ride, but the dinosaurs were the icing on the cake. Β How cool for any dinosaur-loving kid! Right? Β

My son, Jamison, also played an underwater virtual reality game namedΒ  The Blu, where he was able to explore various life forms. Β He saw sea urchins, sea anemone, coral, jelly fish, crabs and much more.Β  At 4 years old, he is an animal lover so this was perfect for him.

Another fun activity was an interactive floor hologram named Beam.Β  It is fun for all ages but especially younger kids that may not be able to fit the head set comfortably or manipulate the handheld controllers that the VR requires.Β  It is a series of step-on interactive games played by running, pouncing, jumping or stepping on the hologram in order to complete a task. For example, answer questions correctly, follow a course, or compete in a race.Β  My son enjoyed it for a while until he tried the VR games and then soon realized they were far more exciting.Β  (We didn’t see this at their newer North Haven location).

The three of us had a fantastic time. Β We loved the places we briefly visited that took us away from our rainy day reality and submerged us in whimsical and beautifully engaging worlds for action packed fun. Β The entire experience was spectacular and I know we only explored the tip of the iceberg. Β We left truly awestruck how technology can provide suchΒ  real-life entertainment!

We recently were able to visit their second location in North Haven and it did not disappoint.Β  We found the staff equally as patient and accommodating as with our initial visit.Β  Even though it took us a bit of time to return to this activity, we were just as excited and awestruck as we initially were.Β  We played several of the same games such as Job Simulator, Sweet Escape and Epic Roller Coaster.Β  We also tried out a few others like Project Cars 2 which is a car racing simulation, Spider Man who jumps and swings by his webs (of course) and Battle Wake which is great for pirate-lovers including ships and pirate lingo.Β

For me, its great to be able to be in the game with the kids fighting bad guys or maneuvering through a course.Β  These family times together are priceless and what makes parenthood so worthy!

Visit Xperiment VR with the kids or a group of adults for indoor entertainment when the weather isn’t cooperating or if you need a fun escape from the heat. Β We visited on a rainy holiday weekend and had a blast. Β Xperiment VR offers summer camps for ages 8 and up with STEM activities, AR and VR . Β Individual or private party ( birthday, corporate events, and school field trips ) time slots can be booked. The parties have exclusive access to the entire space.Β  Weekday bookings are able to get bonus time at no additional charge.Β  Use promo code KIDFRIENDLY for 10% off when booking your time (includes parties).Β  You and the kids should definitely visit, you will absolutely love it and find out first hand why everyone is raving about VR!
