Slater Memorial Park has so much potential for fun! It has tennis and basketball courts as well as baseball fields. There are 18 picnic tables, biking and walking paths, dogs are permitted on leashes and a fenced in dog park is also available. The playground is huge with both a smaller fixture for younger children and an enormous one for older kids. Because we visited in early spring and the park wasn’t yet in season, serval amenities were not open. The concession stands were closed as well as the greenhouse. The bathrooms were sparse. There were no events going on. Normally smoking is not permitted on the grounds but people were smoking because the park was not yet seasonally opened. The garden was present but nothing had grown yet sadly. The space for the plants and raised beds was mapped out so you could see the ability is there for a nice garden. Also the carousel was not yet open. Also there are swan boats for rental that was also closed at this time. Another thing here is a small farm named Daggett Farm with animals to view. There are signs present not to touch or feed the animals and there aren’t that many. They were out to view though. From what I researched, there used to be a better variety of animals.

For us, the open space, farm animals, garden layout and playground was a big draw. We arranged a play date here with a couple of other kids. It was fun for all of us, but I’m sure it will be better once it is warm out and all the amenities are fully open.

I’m looking forward to coming back here at that point. I saw that the park holds several family-friendly events and it would be great to see once everything is lush and warm.

Goats at Dagget Farm
Donkeys
Information stand on happenings in the park and pricing
Very interesting to watch the chickens
A pony
Super cool arbor no foliage here yet just branches but it allows you to see the framework, once it blooms it will be so cool to stand in and have a plant house all around you
Another cool vine feature not yet bloomed but can’t wait to see it when it does – these remind me of a fairy garden I love it -so creative
A large gazebo for shade and sitting it has 2 full benches inside
Several raised beds -can’t wait to see them in bloom
The pictures of the raised beds supply the greenhouse that sells plants on the premises
URI master gardeners work out of the area too- can’t wait for spring to be in full season
Information on the swan boats available for rental across from the carousel
Food stands open seasonally looks like quite a variety
It is a sizable stand offering seafood as well-yum!
Jumping across the bridge belt
Enormous rock wall none of our crew even attempted to climb
Part of the 5-12 yr old structure
My son loved this merry-go-round style swing

2-5 year old playground
The large structure is for older kids, it was huge and very full of kids despite its size!
Here it is again I think it had 4-6 slides total. What a monstrous playground this is!
Another big climbing structure
This structure actually comes off from the playground and you can then climb over to the top
Designed for the younger kids everything was more munchkin land- low monkey bars and smaller slides for safety
We used to have these weird things at the McDonald’s playground when I was a kid- kind of boring but after all these years this style still exists! Who knew?
The infamous Carrousel – open seasonally
An enclosed dog park

THE SKINNY:

  • Duration: We spent about 3 hours here exploring, playing and eating
  • Location: Slater Park is a large recreational grounds equipped for several sports, social gatherings, exercise, dog-friendly, and fresh air. A great place for animal and nature lovers alike. It has a huge play ground area that is enclosed!
  • Admission: FREE
  • Parking: FREE, numerous spaces available
  • Recommendations: Sneakers , water, snacks and some cash for food, plants swan rentals and carousel rides. Check out the on-line calendar to see which events you are interested in and to plan accordingly. We were at the farm and the nearest open bathroom was a 10 minute walk! Maybe this is because the park is not β€œin-season” yet. It was an annoyance with two young kids having to strap back into the vehicle.
  • I think due to the size of this park it has plenty of potential to be great, it looks like it just needs some TLC at this time in the garden ( obviously this will change now that spring has arrived ) and the farm itself looked a bit sad because the animals were sparse and unable to be fed or pet. 😞 I’m sure as the weather changes more activities will take place here and the park will have all aspects open. I will re-visit and update my rating then.πŸ˜πŸ¦‹πŸŒΌπŸŒ±
