It was a perfect beach day when we visited East Matunuck State Beach so I that may have influenced my opinion🌈. The water was clear, the sand was soft with some rocks throughout. The waves were medium-sized. The view from the extra long jetty was beautiful. We saw several fishing and recreation boats going in and out.

There is a pavilion selling typical concession stand food. It is overpriced but decent quality-wise. There are also vendors with stands set up with frozen lemonade, clothing and frozen ice cream bars for sale. There are several showers that you can utilize there to clean off the sand and public restrooms along with port-o-potties.

The Skinny:

  • Weather : It has to be a nice day because it is outside
  • Parking & Admissions : I bought a beach pass early in the season for $30 so I could come and go without being charged. I think if you don’t it’s $20 for a car full each time you go. I’ve been over a half a dozen times so it makes sense for us to get the pass.
  • Location : East Matunuck State Beach is a beautiful beach over 144 acres of land. Once you set up a spot it doesn’t seem as crowded as other close by beaches we went to : Roger Wheeler State Beach. Maybe that was because of the weekday verses weekend though. ( likely true ! ) Either way, it’s good to have options for beaches in case one is full or anything else that may happen.Β  The jetty here is super long and the rocks are flat and close together so kids would find this easier to walk on than most jetties we have been on.Β  There is a snack bar which is the same food and price points as Roger Wheeler Beach.Β  Steeply priced but decent quality.
  • Hours : 9am-6 pm with life guards seasonally during these hours
  • Duration : We spent 5 hours here

Tips and Recommendations :

  1. Parking attendants pack the cars in tightly so you will be in close quarters in the parking lot.
  2. East Matunuck State Beach is the same strip of land as Roger Wheeler, Galilee and Salty Brine Beaches.Β  SO, if you can’t get into your first choice beach, there are plenty of other nearby options.

The really long jetty you can see all the passing boats from Point Judith Harbor including the Block Island Ferry. The rocks were big and close together so it is easy for kids to walk on this jetty
