Moss Glen Falls is beautiful! It is one of the shortest trails the kids and I ever hiked with a big payout! To find the trailhead you have to drive in a very rural area and suddenly as you approach the parking lot, you start to see parked cars lining the street with people coming and going. The information posted explains how this area is beaver territory but beaver sightings are rare.  Evidence of their presence is everywhere. They were so right! The kids and I found numerous downed trees with chewed beaver stumps and dams throughout. It was fun to spot them together and there was certainly no shortage of their aftermath.

After about 10 minutes of walking on wooden planks, gnarly tree roots and steep but manageable inclines, we made it to the fall! It was amazing! My favorite thing on a trail is where you can hear the crashing water from afar and as you approach it gets louder and louder until at last, you see the sight you were waiting for! A gorgeous 125 foot waterfall!  Ahhh nature is truly spectacular and this is proof of that.

There are dirt walkways here for a portion of the trail, but when the kids and I visited it wasn’t too wet

This is an image towards the base of the waterfall, it wasn’t too close but the water was not flowing as fast as you would think here

We didn’t get prime foliage season when we went here, but it was still beautiful with the yellow leaves everywhere

look at these teeth marks! The kids got a kick out of spotting all their damage and seeing who could find their markings first

The Skinny:

  • Location : An out-and-back trail that extends for a half a mile.  After a fairly steep yet manageable incline is scaled, you may see an extraordinary waterfall and his its strength as it crashes down below.
  • Weather :  Definitely visit on a day where it is comfortable to be outside.
  • Parking and Admissions: Location : This location is FREE and open to the public with ample parking in the lot that fits about a dozen and street parking after that.
  • Hours : I couldn’t find any hours listed but I wouldn’t go here at dark so, I would suggest sunrise to sunset
  • Duration : The kids and I spent an hour here if that.  It was a very short trail that left me craving more of a hike.
  • Tips and Recommendations : Be on the look out for beavers or evidence that they were here.

If you love waterfall hikes, check out Bingham Falls which is about 18 minutes from Moss Glen Falls also in Stowe, Vermont.  While in Vermont some places we visited include a Ziemke Glass Blowing Studio where we could see how unique pieces are hand made and Stowe Maple Products where we were able to sample warm maple syrup and purchase locally made products.  For dinner while in the area, we loved Top Notch.  It was a splurge but a worthy one.    For a hearty breakfast, The Butler’s Pantry was delicious and they provided the kids with their own Etcher sketches while at the tables-so fun! There’s a ton to do in Vermont with the kids, most of it includes being outside and enjoying locally made foods and goods.  We hope you love it!  Let us know if you visit and what your thoughts are by leaving us a comment.  We would love to hear from you!
