Kerry Kohring Park

Providence, RI 02906

Because my kids are on the smaller side of the scale and they are 3 and 5, they tended to be intimidated by a large playgroundΒ  with noisy fast-moving “big kids”.Β  Kerry Kohring Park was right up their ally!Β  It has all structures and toys geared toward younger children.Β  They met kids their own age and were still challenged by some of the climbing fixtures.

There is nothing left to be desired at this park.Β  It’s quite beautiful even in winter due to the colors of the structures and the community garden that flanks the park.Β  Although nothing was in bloom, the image of fresh fruits and veggies sprouting up along side children playing came to mind.Β  It is such a great way to show little ones how to respect nature and to properly fuel their bodies.Β  Anyway, there are several types of slides,Β  bridges, different levels of staircases, a small and big Madd-hatter-like play house equipped with seating and a mailbox, a sandbox, swings, a zip-line, and numerous tubes to crawl through or just hide in. There are also sand toys and ride-on scooters.Β  Plenty of picnic tables and benches are located close to the children’s play structures.

We went around 1:30 so many families came through.Β  It seemed as though several of them knew each other and met up frequently creating a nice sense of community.Β  Everyone was pleasant and welcoming.Β  There was a book box with many board books inside and what looked like a lost and found with gloves, hats and even shoes enclosed for safe-keeping!

The Skinny:

  • Location :Β  Kerry Kohring Park well-maintained community playground especially designed for babies to younger children

  • Cost:Β FREE

  • Duration:Β we spent an hour and a half but we could have stayed longer but needed to go to a scheduled activity

  • Recommendations: goes with out saying but, bathroom spot first since there were no signs of a public toilet.Β  Bring drinks and a snack but I probably don’t have to say this since you have kids -all they want to do is eat snacks!

  • Parking: free street parking around the perimeter in this quite neighborhood
