The kids and I loved the Veterans Memorial Park in Barrington, Rhode Island for so many reasons.Β  There are really pretty water views of The Brickyard Pond which was named after the brick-making industry that took place here in the 1700s-1943.Β  We like that the location is close to town. You can watch happy birds loudly singing and buzzing around here. It is a dog friendly place (on leashes according to the rules but off from what we saw upon our visits).Β  A ball field and the Barrington YMCA are very close-in fact you would park at the YMCA to hike here. There are beautiful wooded trails with small planked bridges and walkways as needed during wet seasons. Seating is provided throughout in order to allow time to relax and cherish nature.Β  Two picnic tables come into mind- one towards the beginning of the trail looking out into the water and another on a hill overlooking the Brickyard Pond.Β  Both of these offer stunning water views and peaceful sceneries.

Grills are sparsely placed here ( I’m not even sure they function- the look old fashioned). Most of the traffic seen here are dog walkers and their families.

It’s a pretty short walk but a great place to get away from noise, relax and enjoy the water views. We loved it, even in winter.Β Β

The Skinny:

  • Weather :Β  This is an outdoor location with no cover from the elements so come prepared for that.
  • Parking and Admissions : You can park in the YMCA parking lot and walk behind the building to the right and you will find this trail
  • Location : a 2.3 mile loop close to Brick Yard Pond.
  • Hours : Dawn until dusk
  • Duration : We spent about a half hour here the first time because the kids were cold and there was a lot of snow.Β  The second time we spent more like 2 hours here taking our time walking around and stopping to eat-it was more of a casual day with better weather
  • Tips and Recommendations :Β  If you are using the AllTrails app, know that it gets a bit confusing.Β  Because this area isn’t too large we were easily able to find our way back after a misguided wrong turn.
  • ConsΒ : Just know that despite the beautiful Pond, there is no swimming or ice skating permitted here.Β  There is fishing though so do that!Β  If you are looking to bike or would like more of a walk, the East Bay Bike Path is super close to here.
