WHat the kids liked at Salter Grove Park:

Although Salter Grove Park is on the small side, it is worth a visit with the kids!Β  You can park in the lot and walk toward the water where the view is amazing! Β There are big rocks that the kids enjoy climbing up and sliding down. Β You will find a gravel walkway that leads out to the water.Β  Once you go as far straight as you can, there is a jetty that continues as far as the eye can see to the left and a bit towards the right.Β  We had to walk all the way to the end of the left side to see the view. Β At this beautiful coast you can see swans, other birds and fish as well as many boats and fishermen.

A friendly Reminder while visiting Salter Grove:

The view here at Slater Grove from the jetty is so gorgeous that siting to enjoy a snack is absolutely required.Β  One tragic thing about Salter Grove is that there is trash between the rocks because people tend to leave things behind. Β This location is too beautiful to be spoiled by garbage so we did spend some time with grabbers gathering what we could reach!

After walking the rocks, we returned down the rocky path and the water was higher than I recalled, sure enough upon checking the tides, it was high tide.Β  That was fine though because it allowed us the ability to see all the fish in the nearby rocks.Β  My kids loved it.

Salter Grove Playground and nature trail:

Behind the parking lot in the opposite direction there is a playground. Β It has monkey bars, a large climbing structure, swings for all ages, a huge twirly slide and benches or picnic tables nearby for sitting.Β  There is also a short nature trail that is very nice.Β  It has a lot of labeled vegetation.Β  I think that is phenomenal because it helps with identification of the many things we see outdoors and have no idea what we are looking at.Β  The kids know I like to read signs so they were pointing them all out to me.

Salter Grove Park is a nice area to visit for a relaxing day with the kids, especially if you / they have interest in fishing.Β  If you are hungry Pawtuxet Village, is minutes away with great restaurants.Β  My family likes Vatsana Thai Food and there is an ice cream place called Dear Hearts that is great with outside seating by the water. Β You can’t go wrong for food in this area. Β We have visited Salter Park in the various seasons and recommend it year round. Β In winter there are small hills where we have sledded. Β Summer days offer more time to explore and more greenery. Β Spring and fall can bit a bit chilly but the view here is still amazing. Β There is nothing like being by the coast in New England.

The Skinny:

Location : Slater Grove Memorial ParkΒ is a coastal location with a jetty for walking and fishing with an amazing view and wildlife.Β  There is a playground and short hike here as well.

Duration : We can spend anywhere from an hour to a few here depending on what we want to do. Β Walking the length of the jetty can take some time.

Weather : This area is outside so you need good weather, a day with full heat and sun would be very hot on the jetty but the coastal breeze may cool you down.

Recommendations : Use caution on the rocks especially with kids.Β  My son wants to do everything his older sister does so he wanted to walk by himself which is scary.Β  Just be certain you have your little one’s hand as some rocks are tricky but most are flat and easy to walk on.Β  If you hate trash destroying the beauty of nature like me, do your part and bring yours home with you or go a step further and pick up what’s already there!

Parking and Admission : FREE not a huge parking lot but we found some space, I think people get creative with parking here from what I can see.Β  If you can’t find parking, there is a small lot as you leave you take a left out of the lot and there are two spots.Β  Not sure if it is 100% okay to park there but I did!

If you and the kids enjoyed Salter Park and are looking for more parks to visit, check out Wislon Park especially as it warms up as it has a splash pad. Β If a playground at the coast is what you desire, check out North Kingstown Playground. Β Houghton’s Pond in the Blue Hills has a playground by the pond.
