Colt State Park is breath-taking. It’s views are picturesque and panoramic. There are paved biking / hiking paths that run alongside the Narragansett Bay and over a beautiful rock bridge. There are open fields for soccer, frisbee, running, kite flying and catch. It has several basketball courts, a small skate and bike ramp area and numerous picnic table and fire pit rentals. You can also find a playground, boat ramp and a pier for an even closer look at the ocean. There is even a small beach for swimming.

Paved walkways adjacent to the bay with inviting benches positioned throughout to relax and soak up the serenity. This beautiful rock wall goes on for some distance and the kids wereΒ  able to walk on it during our exploration.Β  They felt like β€œbig kids.”

The Skinny:

  • Hours : Sunup to sundown
  • Location :Colt State Park is theΒ perfect spot by the water to relax and or be active outdoors with a view, includes a playground, path both paved and unpaved for use, a small bike and skate park, fields and courts, picnic and fire place rentals, fishing, a boat ramp, a beach for swimming. There is also a ceremony area for weddings and a large pavilion. There are 2 enormous gazebos as well. On the property there is the Coggeshall Farm Museum.
  • Duration : We spent about 2.5 hours but this was during Corona Virus so we didn’t have much to do otherwise
  • Recommendations : Take your dogs on leashes as this is a dog-friendly park and we saw several! Pack food with you and wear some sneakers!
  • Parking and admissions : FREE

Visit Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island with the kids

If you enjoyed Colt State Park, check out the Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium which is pretty close by.Β  If offers an indoor educational museum and aquarium with a short nature trail, access to the East Bay Bike Path and beautiful gardens.Β  Another place that you may like is Osamequin Nature Reserve if you like birds or the Veterans Memorial Park if you are looking for a quiet place with minimal foot traffic that is dog friendly.
