This trail is great if you don’t mind rocks, tree roots and inclines.Β  My kids and I are fine with that, but because this is a review for younger kids, I rated it a 7/10.Β  There is nothing about this location that we didn’t like, it’s just more of a moderate hike than others we have been on.Β  My kids loved playing hot lava here since there were so many rocks to jump to and from, it was fun for them not to touch the ground.Β  Besides the rocks on the actual trails, there were other larger rocks off to the side that my two exlporers love to try climbing and mainly conquer, especially my six-year-old girl!

If your kids are older or can handle varying terrains, this would be a great spot to explore together.Β  There are some vernal pools known to have reptiles and birds nearby, also an overlook and a small waterfall that starts from a very tall cliff.Β  (watch the you tube video below).Β  We found the waterfall thanks to a local’s detailed directions.Β  Otherwise our trail was not taking us to it.Β  Others we have spoken to say it is difficult to find and I would second that opinion.

The Skinny:

  • Weather : A nice, dry day ideally because it is outdoor location
  • Parking and Admissions : Plenty of free parking, not really a lot where we parked was along the side of the road near condos
  • Location : A very sloped area for hiking with uphills and downhills throughout as well as rocks and tree roots to use caution over.Β  We enjoy a challenge so for us it was great.Β  I would say this isn’t a beginners hike or one for especially young kids.
  • Duration : We spent 3 hours here exploring. We could have stayed longer but the sun was setting.
  • Tips and Recommendations : Wear walking shoes and comfy attire. Dogs are welcomed here.Β  There is another area to park on Carltons Trail next time I will check that out.Β Β

If you are in the area and want to see more, be sure to check out Lincoln Woods.Β  It offers trails, a pond, and recreational activities such as horse back riding and sailing to name a few.Β  Another fun area is the bike path in Blackstone River State Park.Β
