Disclosure : This post only discusses the off-road experience as that was the activity we did with our kids. There are several activities offered at Alpine Adventures so we will be returning as the kids grow and we are able to partake in more.

Alpine Adventures offers so much fun for thrill seekers, nature lovers and those interested in regional insight. Due to my son’s age (4), we were not able to do all the activities this outfit offered. We really wanted to do zip lining but we have time for that in the future. The only activity we could do was the off road excursion.Β  It was slow but still super fun. We got to ride a 6-wheel-drive, old Swiss army war vehicle named a Pinzgauer that can literally run over everything in its path. We were stunned by this vehicle’s ability to handle enormous rocks, trenches, mud and of course an uphill mountainside! The vehicle is like an open Jeep in that all the window flaps are rolled up for better viewing. Because of that, it can get quite breezy when the vehicle is moving full speed ahead. Passengers have seatbelts on during the entire ride. The back seat gets the most of the bumps but in my opinion is the most thrilling because of that.

Once we reached the top of Barron mountain we got out for a mini history lesson on the local area along with some insight about the rocks seen on the mountain -Mica and Granite. We were given some Mica as a souvenir and explained that this shiny mineral can be found in make-up and car paint. We also learned about the history of trees in New Hampshire and about New Hampshire activities in general. Our guide for our Alpine Adventures off-roading tour was “Dr. Cool”.Β  He was incredible. He has the best, outgoing personality for the job. He was very informative and made us all feel comfortable throughout our tour, explaining about local areas we could explore.

We got out of the vehicle at one more location. It was the treehouse area where the zip-lining tour from Alpine Adventures descend down the mountain. We were able to go in the small roof enclosed perches and on the rope bridges for a family picture. It provided a little insight of what the zip line tour would be like. Once we were done there, we all packed back into the Pinzgauer and headed back to the central location of alpine adventures where we everyone parked.

This activity was our favorite out of all the activities we did in the area, despite the fact that we were cold. That was short lived ( mostly while the vehicle was moving ) so, it was fine. The vehicle fit 11. We are from Rhode Island and met another family from Rhode Island-such a small world!

THE SKINNY :

  • Weather : Alpine AdventureΒ is open year round with different experiences to be had during each season however, it is nice when the weather is pleasant so you can be comfortable and have the best views with the top off the vehicles.
  • Parking : FREE parking at their main location where all the vehicles take off from.
  • Admissions : Off-roading only $40-49 depending on the time and day of the week selected ( first on the day on a weekday provides a small discount ). See the website for other activities.
  • Location : Participants meet in Lincoln and get in their vehicle and drive a short distance on the road and then head up Barron Mountain which is in Woodstock where the activities take place on 300 acres of private land.
  • Hours : Participants can chose to go out off-roading several times a day in rain or shine
  • Duration : The off road experience is and hour to an hour and a half time wise
  • Tips and Recommendations : They recommend that you don’t take anything with you, even car keys due to the bumpy ride and that you go to the restroom prior to the off road ride.Β  Also make sure you plan for the elements as the vehicle is open (kind of like a jeep to provide scenic views) and not heated.
  • Cons : There was nothing to speak of except the weather wasn’t as ideal as we would have liked. It was chilly and sunny so it could have been worse. Despite our layers, we were still cold but it was worth the chill in exchange for the fun, everyone agreed!
