Jay Peak

A family visit to Vermont’s Jay Peak resort is just what the doctor ordered if you are interested in getting away from in all in a remote and picturesque location where you can spend quality time with your children submerged in nature. Let’s not forget the huge waterpark, ski and snowboarding trails, climbing rock wall, restaurants, connivence store, ice rink, swim shop, movie theater and more that are all on the property grounds.

Jay Peak “Pump House” is amazing. There are slides and activities for all ages. I think us adults had more fun than the kids if I’m being honest. The water slide, La Chute is an adrenaline rush to say the least and trying out the wave rider was a pure blast.

My kids, of course adored the very large lazy river that actually had decent sized waves! Other favorites of theirs were the hot tub and the basketball pool.

We visited at the end of the summer / early fall season so the hotel’s amenities were opened sparingly including the water park. Since we arrived on a Saturday that meant it was available that day and Sunday. The weekday portion of our trip, the waterpark was closed.

It’s nice to have variety on any vacation so we were fine booking two days of the waterpark.  If your goal is strictly to enjoy the waterpark, pay attention to the open dates before booking if it’s not their busy season (winter or summer).

Besides the waterpark, Jay Peak resort has numerous amenities to offer.  These include  a rock climbing wall, ice rink, arcade, movie theater, restaurants, fitness center, hiking trails, a cafe, swim shop, convenience store, and seasonal skiing and snowboarding.  Again, pay attention to the dates these activities are open if they interest you since, they were open limited days during our off-season visit.  The waterpark entrance is in Hotel Jay Peak as is the convenience store,  swim shop, cafe, restaurants and fitness center. Therefore, staying in Hotel Jay is the easiest option for families utilizing  the waterpark as opposed to staying at their single-family homes, condominiums, or townhouses.  The ice rink is directly across the parking lot from the resort which is a quick 2 minute walk, if that.  The movie theater and rock wall are within driving distance and amongst the condos on the Jay Peak property but, not very walkable especially on a crummy day.  As are some of the other dining options.  For the most part, if you want to be as close to the action as possible, staying in the resort will be the best bet for you and your family.  I personally couldn’t imagine swimming at the waterpark then not being within walking distance to my own shower, especially in the winter!

There isn’t a whole lot to do in the area except enjoy the resort activities, food and nature.  If you are not into nature or outdoor activities, this may not be the place for you.  Or, you may want to just stay very briefly.  But, if you are looking to get away from noise of a busy life and take a real break with the family then, we recommend a visit.  You are certainly far from the city in this area most things are a decent drive.

Upon entrance to the lobby, we noticed that Hotel Jay Peak  is very modern and well-kept. There are high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows to showcase the beautiful mountain views all around, spacious walkways and wood accents throughout.

Our main reason to visit Jay Peak was to check out the Pump House water park. I had been wanting to visit for years so, I had to make that happen. It did not disappoint!

Here’s the area for little ones. It is pretty sectioned off from the chaos of the other areas and has a large dump bucket that is fun for all ages.
The Lazy River at Jay Peak is unlike others we have seen. It runs around the parameter of the park and actually has waves.  It’s very cool.

The wave rider was by far the most unique attraction at Jay Peak’s pump House. The only other times we have seen these are on cruise ships or in California. They are a ton of fun. On lookers are able to pull up chairs and watch the adventurers enjoy their thrill.  Yes, we all had to try it, check out the videos below.

My kids could have stayed in the lazy river the entire day but we encouraged them to try other activities. The slides, rock wall pool, hot tub and wave rider were all utilized after they finally got out of the lazy river.

We all loved the hot tub after being in the pool to relax and chill out! I t’s quite big too and able to accommodate many people.

across the parking lot from the Hotel Jay Peak is the Haus ice rink. We didn’t get to try this out but, it’s great for local children.  We noticed it hosted numerous hockey tournaments while we were staying over.

above the waterpark is a balcony and a bar where patrons can relax with a drink while checking out the scene.

There are numerous attentive life guards positioned throughout the park. Another thing you will notice is the metal statues in the water park. This one is a moose so it’s quite large and lovely!

There is a cafe, Buddy’s Mug in the Jay Peak resort to enjoy a quick morning coffee before the day’s big adventure.

Not pictured are the movie theater and rock climbing wall.  That’s because, we never experienced them due to closures throughout our stay.  Also, the arcade is adjacent to the water park but, we we were too busy enjoying the waterpark that, when we finished it was closed.

What we did discover is that the Jay Peak grounds are composed of several buildings / areas.  The water park and arcade is for instance, in the Jay Peak hotel and the ice rink is across the parking lot.  Other activities are further away and best accessed by car.  The movie theater and the rock climbing wall attractions are further away.  The club house is walkable but, also a quick minute in the car ( there is a large hill so I suggest a car if you have really young children or the weather isn’t great).  Before visiting, I was under the impression that all the attractions were much closer and open more frequently.  So, I believe this information can help logistically plan family trips better.

  • Weather :  Most people would visit during skiing / snowboarding season or summer to take advantage of the indoor waterpark and other outdoor activities.
  • Parking : FREE plentiful parking
  • Admissions: We stayed at the hotel so they offer packages for the waterpark and hotel stay but, of course they vary by season and day of the week.  You would have to inquire with Jay Peak.
  • Location : Jay Peak Resort has a fun indoor waterpark at their lovely mountain resort.  Numerous outdoor and indoor activities are offered here.  These include skiing, snowboarding, nature trails, bike riding, an arcade, ice rink, rock climbing wall, movie theater, restaurants, and of course the waterpark that has slides, splash pads, a hot tub, a bar, a wave rider, a lazy river and more.
  • Hours : The water park during fall is open only on weekends until 5.  Hours vary so check and plan ahead.
  • Duration :  We stayed at the water park for about 4 hours each day for 2 consecutive days.
  • Tips and Recommendations : Be sure to check the hours and days of operation for Jay Peak attractions as they are not open around the clock and weekdays are sparingly during the down season (fall).  On the flip side, take advantage of shorter lines and less crowds by visiting during the slow season.  Sadly, we did not get to enjoy any winter activities at Jay Peak.   Therefore, we would love to return to explore the other seasons to give a full report.  If you visit during the rest of the year, let us know what you enjoyed and how your experience was.

Jewel : 👍🏼  She enjoyed it

Jamison : 👍🏼 He loved it!

We know your kids love waterparks too , so check out more options such as Great Wolf Lodge and Water Park of New England for two Massachusetts water parks.  If an outdoor water park is more appealing, Santa’s Village in New Hampshire is fantastic for cooling off on those hot summer days.
