My kids and I visited Wilson Park in North Kingstown for outside fun. It is a newly renovated playground so we couldn’t wait to enjoy it. We arranged a play date there which was perfect for 4 energized kids to enjoy and two hard working mamas to socialize. There is a splash pad for the kids to cool off on warm days (the day we visited it was afternoon so the sun was setting and the water was not very warm). A few kids cautiously enjoyed the spritzing.
My kids’ favorite feature here would be the long zip-line. The best part about the zip-line is that there are two extra long tracks. One is for standing or sitting on the small, flat disk-shaped platform and the other is set up like a chair with your body completely supported and your legs dangling. I tried out the chair but I must say, with my cross body purse, it was a tight squeeze to buckle the chair over my chest. Besides that, it was loads of fun. The cool thing about the zip-line tracks is that they have slight curves in them encouraging the “seats” to return to where they were sent from. This means you don’t have to constantly chase the seat from one side to the next-how clever!
Another favorite fixture here was the global motion spinning cage. Several kids are able to fit on this twirling structure at once. There are two levels so the smaller kids tend to sit on the bottom while the bigger kids tend to help spin and climb on both top and bottom. I’ve tried to help turn it many times and it certainly isn’t the easiest task, maybe it was designed that way as a safety precaution? With that being said, it is a good way for the kids to practice teamwork and also meet other families. The kids watched as bigger kids hung upside down on the railings and did back flips while this feature was in motion-they were amazed but also it opened their eyes to what they can achieve through practice.
As a parent, I loved that the playground was open so it was easy to look around and quickly see your children. What wasn’t so fantastic was that there wasn’t much shade or seating for parents close by the playground There was a shaded area with tables but it felt far from where the kids play. It’s not a deal breaker for us, we can bring blankets and sit in the grass but, closer seating would be perfect.

The Skinny:
- Weather : It has to be a dry day to visit the Wilson playground
- Parking and Admissions : There is plenty of free parking here
- Location : This area has ball fields and this open concept playground with a portion of it being a splash pad
- Hours : Open to the public 8 A.M. -8 P.M.
- Duration : We spent 2hours or so here enjoying the afternoon
- Tips and Recommendations : The typical items here would be sneakers, a drink, towel and bathing suit if the kids intend to play in the splash pad
Jewel Approved: 👍🏼

If your kids love this playground, you should also check out the Jamestown Community Playground because it is fabulous and also newly renovated. You can also check out Goddard Park for a place to be active and cool off not too far from Wilson’s Park.
