This place was fun. There are several trails. We went a couple of times now both in snowy conditions.Β We parked at the Lafayette road lot and took the red trail to the yellow and did a short loop the first day. The kids and I were thrilled to be out because it was nice to be active in the fresh air and enjoy the snow. We enjoyed looking for tracks. This area permits dogs so we did see plenty of dog tracks but not super successful in the wild animal department π€·ββοΈ.Β Maybe the dogs or my wild beasts scared them away ; ) ?.
The second time we returned, we also parked in the Lafayette lot and walked this time taking the yellow trail again but now heading to the mauve/purple trail ( I don’t recommend it because it takes you out to a large meadow that has a posted sign saying it is for livestock.Β Basically a dead end where you have to turn back.Β It may have been worth the walk if we actually saw livestock, but there was no such luck with snow falling and 32 degrees Fahrenheit.Β Once we back-tracked to the yellow again we walked for a while meeting a local recommending the Lake Street area to see the saw mill.Β We walked back to the car in a loop at this point we had been hiking outside in the snow for about 2 hours and did 2.6 miles according to the AllTrails recording.Β So we drove to Lake Street which was just about a 10 minute drive.Β Β This parking lot was smaller and we saw only 1 other person and a dog on the trail.Β We walked for a while until we came to a tall stone wall and a stream running through our path.Β We didn’t see it because of the blanketed snow but there is a beautiful small stone bridge crossing over the stream here.Β This area was nice to see.Β The kids walked on the stone wall and were fascinated to watch the stream flow at the water’s edge.Β Β We turned back toward the car after this finding.Β It was fun to explore the new territory and a pretty easy hike.Β At some points the ground was not so flat but for the most part it was manageable for the three of us.Β I bet it is quite beautiful here in other seasons, fall tends to be the most popular from my research.Β We intend to return and see what it looks like when it isn’t such a winter wonderland.Β Β

The Skinny:
Weather :Β This is an outdoor location so ideally you want a rain-free day
Parking and Admissions : 3 lots of free parking with the largest lot being Lafayette Street, the others are Lake Road and East Road.
Location : 7 miles of trails to explore here with the kids mostly set up in loops and great for all ages. Old mill ruins and stone work from the 1800s can be seen here along with Borden Brook, Nonquit Pond and Cedar Swamp.Β This area is great for bird watching.
Hours:Dawn until dusk
Duration : We spent 2.5ish hours here
Tips and Recommendations :Β Dogs, horses and mountain bikes are allowed here so be prepared to see animals- we didn’t see any bikers in winter!

While here, note that Simmons Mill Pond is fairly close by and you will love this kid friendly informative trail.Β Also Fort Barton is in Tiverton too, it has a beautiful water overlook.Β Fogland Beach is a easy kid friendly beach in the area where the kids love to find crabs.
