I’ve been going to this Misquamicut Beach since I was a child. It is such a gorgeous beach. The sand is smooth and tan and the water is blue and clear. The vibe is relaxed and tranquil. Because Misquamicut Beach lies very close to the Connecticut boarder, there are a lot of Connecticut residents as well as Rhode Islanders.
There is a pavilion that has showers, sells food, has a beach shop and an enclosed playground.
The Skinny:
- Location : Misquamicut State beach with beautiful sand and water. So many kid friendly activities minutes away. See them listed below.
- Duration : We have spent up to 5 hours here and the kids still are not thrilled to leave
- Parking and Admissions : You can get a season pass for $30 for RI residents and $60 for non-residents which covers you to go to all RI State parks, I recommend that as it is more cost effective if you plan on going several times, otherwise parking costs around $7-15 for the day depending on the day of the week.
- Tips and Recommendations : There are some bars at the beach if you are looking for a cocktail check out Paddy’s. The food is great, be sure to try the Ahi Tuna.
There is a main strip with motels, restaurants and shops. Also the Purple Ape offers water activity rentals. It’s across the street from the beach on Winnapaug Rd. The activities take place in the Winnapaug Pond which has calm, tranquil waters and is not open ocean so it’s great for kids.
Bay View Fun Park offering Go-carts, bumper boats, batting cages, the spider trampoline jump pictured above and mini golf is minutes away from the beach. WE absolutely loved our go-cart experience with my kids ages 3 and 5! The Misquaumicut Drive-in Theater is another kid friendly activity that you may want to check out while you are in town. Atlantic Beach Park is in close proximity offering arcade games and a carousel (it is currently closed from renovations). Another site that may interest your kids is Rotary Park as which is a unique playground not too far from the beach.
There are several hiking areas minutes away too. See Dr. John Champlin Glacier Park which is a 5 minute drive from Misquamicut State Beach. We did a hike first at Glacier Park in the morning and then went to the beach directly after. The kids’ review was based off of this action packed day.
