Lego Land in Somerville, Massachusetts is such a good time. The kids were excited the whole car ride over and when we walked up the the building, the excitement only grew with the view of a towering lego-made giraffe out front.
Why kids love Lego Land:
The interior of the building is bright and vibrant with murals of Boston and primary colors everywhere. It has an uplifting vibe for the kids. The kids love the special effects at Lego land. These include Kingdom Quest which is a short kid friendly ride in a cart while laser “shooting” bad guys and spiders in order to save the princess. The second is a 4-d movie experienced while wearing glasses. Viewers can feel wind, water and foam dropping from the ceiling. It is exhilarating to watch for kids and adults alike because the short film is so action packed.
The kids enjoyed the display of the city of Boston made of LEGOs. They were so happy to point out things that they have seen before in the miniature replica. For instance, the gas tank with the colored stripes seen from the highway on their way to Lego Land and the famous Zakim Bridge. Now this area is updated to show not only Boston pride but enormous fantasy-style mini-worlds with animals, light-up features and movement. It’s truly remarkable to see the attention to detail displayed here! The grandiosity of mini town is impressive for kids to see and understand that lego building is really limitless. If you can imagine it, it can be built.
Things to do at Lego Land:
After seeing mini town and the replica of Boston, there is a giant room with an open concept layout. In this space you will find several activities such as:
- A 4-d theater. A show at this theater is such a cool experience! They run every 15 minutes or so offering various shows so you can see several different ones. The kids and adults need to be okay with loud noises and getting slightly wet because both will happen. My kids and I loved it and it was our favorite attraction at Lego Land.
- A Duplo Lego section for younger kids which have larger bricks for these little kids. Also this area has a small slide, fishing activity and merry-go-round.
- A laser obstacle game. This area offers flexibility depending upon gamers skills and understanding of the rules. My kids really enjoyed it because it is played in a dark room which makes everything more exciting. Participants either avoid or touch the laser beams and light boxes depending on the initial game selection.
- A car building and racing section where lego parts are in bins. Participants are able to design, assemble and test out how well their creations perform on the declined ramps. There are three different themed stations to test the cars : a volcano, a pyramid and an alligator.
- Motion VR pods showing an amazing short film with action scenes of lego characters.
- A large indoor playground. Kids of all ages love this playground. It has various levels to climb up and slides to go down. Most parents were watching from the sidelines here.
Snacks and gifts at Lego Land:
There is a café in the front of the room with snacks, Starbucks and food for sale. No other outside food is allowed. On the main floor there is a gift / toy shop for the kids which all things legos including adult serious building sets a 3-d customizable lego character printer, and numerous other lego kits.
After our visit to Lego Land we are typically hungry and go to Papagayo’s which is in also in Assembly Row. We can all find some amazing Mexican food that makes our tummies smile there.
Lego seriously has an amazing product with endless open-ended fun for kids. I love how it has transformed into a great product appealing to both genders with various colors and themes. The lego craze is real and we are all-in!
The Skinny:
- Weather : Any is perfect as this is an indoor activity. Lego Land is in an outdoor shopping center, Assembly Row. Therefore, visiting on a day where you would like to be outside makes sense in order to enjoy the plaza as well.
- Pricing & Admissions : Tickets range from about $26.99-44 per person or annual passes are available too.
- Location : An indoor fun center where kids utilize snap together building blocks. Here kids creatively build, play, imagine and engineer and design. The possibilities are endless, making Legos fun for all.
- Parking : There is a public parking garage located on Artisan Way – parking is *FREE* for the first 3 hours! In addition to that, street parking is an alternate not as good option because it usually has a 2 hours maximum.
- Hours : 10-8 Monday-Thursday, 10-9 Friday and Saturday and 10-6 Sundays. Check on special holidays and school breaks for changes
- Duration : We stayed here about 3-4 hours each time, leaving to get food.
- Tips and Recommendations : GO enjoy amazing Mexican food and delicious margaritas at Papagyo Restaurant which is in walking distance from Lego Land. The kids always find something they will eat there too!
- Cons : Lego Land gets very busy on rainy days and weekends so, come early or later in the day to avoid the midday rush.
