Fogland beach is pretty cool! You can actually pull your vehicle right up close to where you lay your blanket and chairs. That makes it great for visiting with young kids and keeping the struggle of lugging the beach gear and food to a serious minimum! ( love it π). It also has quite a beautiful view looking into the ocean from the shore. A fair amount of visitors come to enjoy beach activities such as kite boarding and windsurfing. We also saw some kids kayaking too. So even if these activities arenβt for you, they are soothing to watch and see the beautiful bright sails go back and forth in the water and appreciate the skills of the participants.Β Β
The beach itself is not too big, but what we did notice is that there where two separate areas. Where we parked, the beach was in front of u.Β We swam there but we saw some people heading across the street once they parked. When we went there, we saw more of a cove that was calm and had boats and minimal wind. The kids enjoyed exploring both areas.
This was also a fun place to find sea creatures. The shoreline is full of rocks and a ton of slipper shells. This makes perfect places for crabs to hide. We found so many hermit crabs, periwinkles, small fish and other crabs that were more challenging to catch. This kept the kids busy and happy the whole day.
The Skinny:
- Weather : It has to be a nice day because it is outside
- Parking and Admissions :Β Parking and admissions are$15 per day on weekends and holidays. $5 per day for motorcycles.Β The great thing is you may park right on the beach so the walk is short to get back and forth from your car, you can see your car from where you place your blanket!
- Hours : life guards are on- duty 9am-4pm
- Location : Fogland beach has a view of the Sakonnet River, there is a restroom and playground for kids
- Duration : We spent 6 hours or so here, the kids love the water and playing in the sand so they are very happy to be here and never ask to go home
- Tips and Recommendations : Take some sun screen,Β lunch and snacks with drinks.Β The website says the have a food stand but I didn’t see one, not sure if it is closed due to COVID-19.Β Also you have to carry in and out your own trash as their are no trash bins here.Β Another thing to note is the rocky shore.Β I found it uncomfortable but the kids didn’t seem to mind it.Β I would say water shoe are ideal here.Β We sat on our blanket with our cold lunches (sandwiches) but we did see people utilize the picnic tables present and take small grills too.Β Dogs are welcomed outside of beach season that are leashed (not during June 6th-Labor day)
early morning fog but still a beautiful sight

Β There are changing rooms, showers, picnic benches, a children’s playground and pets are allowed. The conservation area has hiking / walking trails and a wildlife / nature preserve.Β
