This location challenged us at times. Despite that, it was well worth the challenge of the trying uphill climb we made. My kids have been hiking all of COVID so they were well experienced for this hike. There were some very cool trees, mossy areas and lots of rocks along with strategically placed step-like stones that provided a “natural staircase” in many areas. For some reason in looking this location up, I missed the fact that there is an amazing overlook at the top! This is what makes the hike worth it. We even saw some photographers on top of the mountain taking what looked like fabulous engagement photos! The mountain back drop coupled with Echo Lake is a sight to see.
The way back to the car was rocky and somewhat steep. My kids seemed to have no problem flying down The mountain though with some minor slips here and there. They saw a shy dog they were trying to pet in front of them so that encouraged them to be speedy. I fell on my bottom once too.
The Skinny:
- Weather : A nice dry day ideally because it is an outdoor location
- Parking and Admissions : Plenty of free parking across the street from the entrance.
- Location : Moderately rated 1.5 mile loop hiking trail with a spectacular view of Echo Lake with a 436 feet elevation.
- Hours : none listed on their website
- Duration : We spent an hour and a half here
- Tips and Recommendations : Definite hiking boots. If not, second best would be sneakers. A snack or picnic for sitting and enjoying the view once you get to the top. Some water as you will definitely work! This is a leashed dog-friendly area.
