Emilie Rueker Wildlife Refuge was perfect for my crew. It offered the kids nature trails with vernal pools for frog hunting and untouched marshlands perfect for finding insane amounts of crabs π¦ which my kids adore. Check out the video below showing the amount of crabs we ran into here!
I really loved the calm, picturesque views on the water from the coast with the tall grasses gently waving back and forth in the wind.Β ahhhh -peace!
Another highlight here was the informative billboard labeling the flora and fauna in the area. It made for a great Ispy game with the kids.Β We immediately used it to start identifying all the animals we saw nearby.
If your kids love both frogs and crabs and you love the relaxation that the coast offers, don’t miss a visit to this serine, coastal hike.

The Skinny:
- Weather : Visit on a great day for being outdoors and active
- Parking and Admissions :Β There is a fairly big lot I would say it fits 12-15 cars but we have never really seen it busy here.Β It is FREE to park and explore here.
- Location : 1.6 miles of easy trails through marshland and woods offering beautiful coastal views of the Sakonnet River.
- Hours : Sunrise to sunset daily
- Duration :Β We spent an hour and a half here.Β We stayed at the vernal pool and by the marsh to try to touch all the little creatures we found
- Tips and Recommendations : We definitely saw our share of ticks and mosquitos here so wear bug spray and have socks tucked over your pants as well and long sleeves to avoid any trouble with them.
