Roger Wheeler State Beach is a gorgeous beach to enjoy with the kids. There are numerous jetties in the ocean and this strip of land extends to Galilee and Salty Brine Beaches where you can see the Block Island Ferry and other boats go in and out. Itβs such a nice view! East Matunuck Beach is visible across a narrow body of water when standing on the jetty.Β My son really enjoyed walking there near Salty Brine Beach and waving to the passengers and captains on the numerous passing by boats.
The beach had waves but they were pretty manageable size-wise for young kids. There was a little seaweed but it was easy to walk a short distance to the left or right and be in clear ocean water.
The Skinny:
- Weather : It has to be a nice day because it is outside
- Parking and Admissions : $30 resident season passes, $6-12 weekdays and $7-14 on weekends depending on residency
- Hours : life guards are on- duty 9am-6 pm seasonally
- Location :Β Roger Wheeler State Beach is a beach on the same strip of land as Galilee and Salty Brine with numerous jetties. If you walk to Salty Brine you can see the boats coming in and out. There is a restroom and a playground for kids.Β There is also a food concession stand.Β See below photos.
- Duration : We spent 5 hours or so here, it wasnβt an exceptionally hot day so we went in the water but it was comfortable on the beach and chilly when you got out of the water due to the breeze.
- Tips and Recommendations : Arrive early if you want to go to Salty Brine beach, the lot is smaller and it was full at quarter to 10 on a sunny Sunday.Β Dogs are not allowed.
